General Meeting 6pm Scout Hut

On Wednesday 9th February, there will be a short General Meeting to propose and agree fee increases for the coming year. We will hold this straight after BK closing time at 6pm. Children can stay on in the back room if required. Please try to attend if you can. The meeting should hopefully take no more than 15-20 minutes.

Once again, can we make an appeal for new committee members to join us in the running of the club? We will lose several of our current members at the end of this school year, and those remaining could do with a helping hand! If you could help in any way, we'd be really grateful to hear from you. Please see Julie in the first instance.

February half-term holiday club will be running from 21st - 25th February. Please see either Julie or the website for booking forms. Closing date for bookings is Friday 11th February 2011.

November 2010

BeeKeepers Monthly Meeting 7:00pm Tues Nov 9th 2010
See Julie for venue.
Please make a note in your diaries for an action day on the 6th November 10:30 to 2:30, when together with the Cubs & Scouts we will be tackling the jobs that will improve your childs welfare at the club. Mainly clearing rubbish, putting down play bark and general cleaning. Seasonal refreshments will be provided.
The Half Term Holiday Club went very well with a large Den being built in the front room, and to quote Jack " the best day he's ever had at BK". Pumpkin carving saw some excellent scary examples. There was also a visit to the Designer Outlet where they enjoyed a pumpkin hunt.

We are always on the lookout for new committee members to help us in the club's
organization. Without a comittee the Club will close by Law. In particular, at the end
of this school year we will be losing some of our valued committee members as their children will be too old to attend the club.
If you would be interested in joining our committee, please speak to Julie in the
first instance for more details. If you'd like to attend one of our committee meetings
as a taster first, please feel free to come along. We usually meet once a month
for an hour or two. All parents are welcome, and again Julie can provide you
with further information.

Welcome back to all our regulars, and a special hello to any new starters. We hope you'll settle in quickly and enjoy meeting up with your friends for some after school fun!
The children had a great time at our holiday club this summer. Events such as an afternoon river cruise, "plaster casting", sampling foods from around the world and building an outdoor cardboard city were enjoyed by all. Thanks to all the staff for producing this enjoyable and action packed programme.
We ran a coconut shy at the Fulford Show on August Bank Holiday Monday, where we raised over £100 for club funds. Thanks very much to Chris for his efforts in running this stall.
For those of you who are new to the club, Beekeepers has four permanent members of staff to look after the children on a daily basis. Behind the scenes, we have a voluntary management committee consisting of parents of children who attend the club.

We've got a very full and exciting programme lined up for the summer holiday club this year. Some of the activities planned include making go-karts, inventing an outdoor Cardboard city, a "Space week" where we will be designing and making our own alien costumes, creating our own countries with unique flags, languages and food, plaster casting, shadowgramming and of course we couldn't forget the firm favourite of the water fight and water slide! Please see Julie for more details, including booking forms and a weekly timetable.

As you know, we now have a requirement for up-front payment at the time of booking the holiday clubs. We realise that payment up-front for the full six-week summer holidays may stretch the finances, so we suggest that if this would cause you problems, you present post-dated cheques at the time of booking (eg three post-dated cheques for each two weeks of the holidays) so that we are assured of payment, but so that equally the money is not all taken from your account at one time.
Again, please see Julie for further clarification if required.
Booking forms are available here and also from Julie. Deadline for booking of first week is Friday 16th July.

Geoffrey has recently completed training to enable him to become BK's Inclusion Coordinator. He and Katie have also gained a First Aid qualification. Congratulations!

Children in the May half term holiday club spent some time creating models and artwork for the Council's Fiesta 2010 event, with the fruits of their labours being displayed in St Sampson's Square on 5th June. A magical, mystical garden was created containing artwork from a number of children's clubs. Highlight of the BK efforts was a giant praying mantis, but there were lots of other beautiful creatures including bees, caterpillars, ladybirds, butterflies and grasshoppers. Well done to all the children and Staff - the display was stunning.

We held our AGM in BeeKeepers at 6pm Wednesday 28th April. Unfortunately only the Voluntary Committee Members were present, however the meeting went ahead, and the Annual Report was presented by Elaine, Beekepers Chair Person and the Annual Accounts presented by Rick, BeeKeepers Treasurer. Copies of the reports can be obtained from Julie.

Geoffrey has begun Inclusion training to become our Inclusion Officer. The course will help us to understand the implications of the disability discrimination act, how this impacts on the club as well as how to include children with disabilities in our setting.

May/June half term holiday club will include working with a local artist to take part in "Fiesta 2010". The children will be helping to create artwork to represent a magical, mystical garden, and the results of their work will be on display in the city centre.

For the Summer Holidays we require materials to build 'Soap box racers' aka Go Karts, such as wheels off prams, pushchairs, scooters etc. See see Julie if you do.
